Essential criteria you must meet to be eligible for the Graduate Visa 485
Must be under 35 years of age at time of application. Exceptions for PhD and Masters (research) graduates, and Hong Kong/BNO passport holders (under 50).
Must have completed a CRICOS-registered course in Australia within the last 6 months of application.
IELTS 6.5 overall with minimum 5.5 in each component (or equivalent). Test must be taken within 1 year of application.
Must meet health and character requirements including Australian Federal Police clearance and adequate health insurance.
Must hold an eligible visa and have held a Student visa within the last 6 months of application.
Must be in Australia when applying for the visa (except for Second PSW stream).

Important updates to the Graduate Visa 485 program
Age limit reduced from 50 to 35 years for most applicants (effective 2024). Exceptions for PhD and Masters (research) graduates.
IELTS requirement increased from 6.0 to 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each component for applications lodged on or after 23 March 2024.
English test validity reduced from 3 years to 1 year for all applications.
Application fees increased from $1,680 to $2,235 for main applicants from 1 February 2025.
Skills assessment requirement temporarily removed for Graduate Work Stream (July 2022 - June 2023).
